Naked Traveler

The Naked Traveler

Hawaii

People might argue about which is the most nakedly beautiful spot in the USA, but many would admit that Hawaii has got to be in the top 10. If you like stunningly lush scenery and gorgeous men in tiny swimsuits, Hawaii could be the naked destination for you.
Gay life on these islands is distinct from that in other places. There's a somewhat different approach - more emphasis on group activities, sort of like a big family or ohana approach to life. To be sure there are gay bars and gathering places, but not many, and almost all are on the island of Oahu which is where Honolulu is, as well as most of the state's population. Here you'll find a gay guest house, The Cabana (cabana-waikiki.com), which will fill your needs nicely. There are some gay guest houses and a bar or two on the other islands, where you may just want to spend some time soaking up the beauty.
Most gay nightlife is centered in the Kuhio district of Waikiki. Plan to spend nights here if you want to bar hop. Pick up one of the local gay papers to tell you what is happening where, and especially where the nightspots are. Things have a way of changing location in Honolulu. The Gay Center (thecenterhawaii.org) will be helpful in finding information as well.
You'll most likely start your night at Hula's Bar and Lei Stand (hulas.com), which for the naked-oriented is a place to go for the male revue - a hot presentation every Friday and Saturday. A large establishment, Hula's offers lots the gay traveler craves. It's also a fun place where they regularly do the unusual (on their 30th anniversary, they rented the whole Honolulu Zoo and partied with the animals till the wee hours). Once located in the Kuhio district, it's now near Kapiolani, not far from Queen's Beach.
Your next stop will probably be Angles with a great friendly staff; this place offers the naked aficionado Wednesday nights filled with flesh. The Best Chest, Buns, you-name-the-body-part contest is held each week and with the many tanned buff bodies roaming the island, this is the competition to attend to see what they have to offer without a swimsuit. Round out your night at Fusion, a late night dance venue which also offers a male revue, The Men of Fusion, every Friday and Saturday.
But the truly naked traveler will want to spend time roving Hawaii's beaches, which delight and surprise any nude-minded man. With all the islands in the state there are more than enough to keep you busy. Though public nudity is technically prohibited, it's only when authorities choose to enforce the law that you need to cover those gym-worked buns.
On Oahu you'll find several gay beaches, among them Queen's Surf Beach, Dig Me Beach, Diamondhead Lighthouse Beach and Goat Island. Each has something to offer the gay traveler seeking nude or almost nude sights. Sun worshipers regularly flout the law and bare everything. Each of these locations has a gay area which you'll have no trouble finding. Queen's Surf Beach is one of the more popular spots, especially on weekends, when you're likely to see a lush lawn of men and blankets. During the week, afternoons are when you'll find this beach lined with guys.
Diamondhead Lighthouse Beach has a couple of "Best of" titles to its name and thus has become popular for guys who want to show their skin. If you want to see or show, walk to this romantic, rock and sand beach and throw down your blanket and whatever else you have a mind to throw.
Dig Me Beach supposedly got its name from all the great bods (both male and female) parading around and begging people to "dig" all the work they'd done in the gym. People report some spectacular sights on this beach - see for yourself.
Goat Island, a pristine, uninhabited island off the coast of Oahu (reachable on foot at low tide) has several beaches, all gay friendly. It's also the home of Malaekahana State Park and as such has cabins and camping grounds. It's popular and beautiful and worth the wade (across the water).
Mokulea, Lanikai, and Kailua beaches are all gay friendly. The other islands have their share of beaches as well, each with its gay section. The nudity laws are tested by beach lovers at all these sites. And all of them are popular places for romantics to watch the sun set.
When you tire of that gorgeous flesh parade, you may want to try a gay luau. What's Hawaii without a taste of poi or roast pig? Hawaii Adventures and Hula's sponsor a regularly-scheduled luau, and it comes with all the trimmings - including some you'll never forget.
Max's Gym, for those neither luau nor beach inclined, is also a sauna, complete with video rooms, steam room, sauna, showers and men. It's a men-only, private facility that will give you plenty of play time.
For the sheer tropical pleasure, the beauty of lush green hills and valleys, and for a cultural experience that takes you far away from what you can expect at any destination in the continental USA, Hawaii is the place to go. A naked good time is what you'll have, with sights that burn themselves into your memory.
