For a nakedly good time in the South, Atlanta is one of the first places you'll want to visit. Though very definitely a Southern city, there is a cosmopolitan flair, here with people from the four corners of the country settling down to make Hotlanta their home. The gay community has a definite presence, and that means bars and that means naked possibilities. Atlanta has a number of gay populated neighborhoods/areas where you'll find bars, shops, and lots of gay-friendly attitude. Midtown is the main gay neighborhood and cuts a wide swath stretching out from Piedmont Park (a fav gay hangout). Virginia-Highlands (so named by the streets at the heart of the area) is east of Piedmont Park and is filled with gay shops, businesses, and people. There's also East Atlanta Village, Inman Park, and Little Five Points but Decatur, six miles east of downtown Atlanta is where you might find yourself in the unlikely event that you run out of things to do in Midtown. Burkhart's (burkharts.com) is a friendly gathering spot, always packed. It's a place where you can get good inexpensive food and see drag shows with Miss Kitty Le Claw and lots of hot men. A beautiful back patio and more make this a great place to start your evening. But there are no strippers. The Naked Traveler will drop them a line before his next visit. Hoedowns (hoedownsatlanta.com) on Monroe is a favorite with the cowboy set. Line dancing lessons and two steppin' music give all the cute cowhands a chance to show off their boots and hats. Good thing I bought a new pair of boots - line dancing is just not the same in sneakers. It's a fun place and with a little luck you may even be able to rope that prime beefcake you've had your eye on. Plenty of men to watch or meet. Or you can try Mary's (marysatlanta.com), with a totally different musical outlook. It's a friendly neighborhood dance bar with a great staff. The bar is always packed and people dance into the wee hours. For a completely different experience, try Woofs (woofsatlanta.com), a bar dedicated to gay sports. Unique and filled with hot gay sports stars and their admirers, this is a place not to miss if you enjoy batting, kicking, catching, or just watching balls in play. Yet another musical turn is taken at The Oscars, where music of all the favorite Divas reigns and Show Tune night is the most popular night of the week. With a different set from cowboys or sports fans or even the crowd at Mary's, The Oscars may be just be the place for you. If leather is your thing, the Atlanta Eagle (atlantaeagle.com) is your hangout. Hot men in leather, bear nights, and every Thursday is underwear night - for a taste of the almost-naked. And if you are overcome by the urge to buy leather accessories (even naked travelers can add a dash of panache with a bit of leather) there is a leather shop, Rawhide leather, located in the Eagle. But what about a more fully naked experience? What about a stripper or two? How about more than 80 strippers from all around the globe? Swinging Richard's (swingingrichards.com) will give you that nakedly fun time you're searching for. A large facility, it has three stages and the way things are set up, all the sightlines are good. You can't get a bad seat here and a good thing, too because the guys are hot. If you desire a slightly more personal view, there are seven VIP rooms in which you can get a closer look. The Metro is another venue where male strippers can be found and ogled. With drag performances and a glittering crowd, Metro is a place any naked traveler should check out. If you want a steamier naked experience, head over to Atlanta's saunas or as they are wont to call them, "Gay Men's Social Clubs." However you tag them, you're in for a good time and some naked sights. Flex (flexbaths.com), which has branches in Los Angeles, New Orleans and other cities, is a newly redone bathhouse with a heated, indoor pool and a sundeck filled with hot men. An elegant steam room and large sauna complete the place. You might also try Eros Atlanta (cluberosatlanta.com) which is undergoing some changes but promises fun theme rooms and lots of secret hideaways but no steam or sauna. However there's plenty of flesh and naked delights. Hotlanta is a fun naked travel experience with bars and restaurants, parks and baths, and if you want a naked camping experience there are clothing optional gay campgrounds nearby (well, nearby if you have a car): Rivers Edge Camping (camptheriversedge.com), In the Woods (inthewoods.com) and a few others. All in all, Atlanta is a great place to spend a few naked days or weeks.
