Naked Traveler

The Naked Traveler

By JRG DeMarco

Munich

Strolling along the Isar River or wandering through the English Garden in Munich are only two of the things that make a naked traveler's heart sing in this Bavarian capital city. There you will see kindred souls in all their glory walking along with you.
Hotties abound in this southern German city and more often than not you get to see a lot more of the boys than you'd expect in this conservative region. Munich, however, bucks the trend of the rest of Bavaria and is an island of gay friendliness which makes any gay tourist feel welcome.
You'll need a place to stay, and Munich is one of the few cities with a hotel that makes your stay a one-stop shopping experience, if that's what you want. The Deutsche Eiche (deutsche-eiche.com) is a hotel, restaurant, and best of all, a sauna all in one place. The hotel rooms are reasonably priced, with breakfast included, and there's wireless Internet service.
The restaurant serves a mix of old-style German dishes, health-conscious meals, and international fare. There's a buffet breakfast, a bar, and afternoon coffee and cake. But the most naked delight is the sauna. A four-floor fun fair, the Badehaus boasts a Turkish bath, whirlpool, a winter garden, a solarium, massage room, and a unique light spectrum sauna with ever-changing lighting effects. There's also a fitness center, a bistro, a roof garden, bars and private rooms. And did I mention hunky German guys? With only a towel between you and them?
There are two other saunas of interest here: the M54 Sauna Club (www.muenchengaysauna.de)and the Schwabinger Men Sauna (mensauna.de). The M54 sponsors a number of events, none so fun or popular as the Cruising im Schaum or, as we might say here, a foam party – leave your towels behind and take a dip in the sudsy mix to find some fun. They also have a dry sauna, steam, massage, biosauna, and men, men, men. Schwabinger's campy ambience will bring out the fun in anyone; it offers a full complement of features, like jack-off parties, massages with hot young masseurs, steam, darkrooms, movies and a fitness center.
You'll want to spend some time in the city itself and there's plenty to do. Munich has a lot of picturesque streets and buildings and is a popular tourist destination. Lots of people come for Oktoberfest which actually begins long before October. The guys are itching to down those giant beers and get cozy in the beer halls. You'll likely find yourself locked arm over shoulder between two cuties as you sway back and forth singing (or trying to) old drinking songs.
If those old and mostly straight drinking venues don't suit, along some of those quaint German streets are plenty of gay bars where you can find more reliable cuties to lock arms with.
For pure naked fun, the Eagle Munich (eagle-munich.de) is the place to go. It's, of course, a leather bar. But it is so much more. The second Monday of every month is a naked party night, followed by the third Monday's naked/underwear party. The fourth Monday, it's back to just underwear and if there's a fifth Monday, well that's a bonus - another naked night! From what I've seen in that city, some of Munich's hottest men like the leather scene and love the naked nights.
Some of these guys can also be seen at Bau (bau-munich.de), another bar with a masculine charged atmosphere and a staff you will pine for long after your trip is a memory. The naked fun here takes place on some of their special nights: the Blue Light party at least once every month and the unforgettable "bare butt" contest. Bar-Jeans (bar-jeans.de) also draws a hot crowd and has its own special nights. There are others - the venerable Teddy Bar is one, especially if you like bears.
Looking for food? Kr@ftAkt (www.kraftakt.com) is a bar-restaurant you won't want to miss, especially because it has such a sweet and hunky staff. And the "Betty Ford Party" is something you'll talk about for a long time.
Naked travelers will hanker for naked experiences and while Munich's bars and saunas offer something, one of the nakedly Teutonic delights you'll find here is the English Garden and the banks of the Isar River. All overflow with naked fun seekers of all stripes and sexual preferences. When this traveler went with a friend who was more shy, said friend stayed on a bench well out of the way of the main naked traffic. Or so he thought. When I put my clothes back on and returned to retrieve him, I spotted him easily. Still clothed and sitting on the park bench, but flanked by a nude woman and a nude man, all of them looking perfectly comfortable and happy.
Munich, despite its Bavarian conservatism, doesn't shrink from providing gay travelers, especially the naked variety, with a good time. Shake off those old notions along with your clothes and wade into the naked waters of this town straddling both the old and the new, the gay and the straight, the clothed and the naked. And enjoy the breeze as it wafts over your naked flesh while you contemplate the hot nude men strolling through the park.
