The "casting couch" scenario gets a highly nuanced spin in the 1982 film, California Boys, co-directed in 1982 by Steve Scott and Toby Ross, and newly re-mastered for DVD by Bijou Video.
    Joe Andrews wakes up with morning wood and relieves himself in the opening scene. The next time you see Joe, he's in business attire, in a high-rise office with a view. The cut is abrupt, and if you don't realize it's the same person, you'll be left wondering what that opener was all about.
    On his way to meet Joe is lanky blond Glen Robertson. Glen is there to interview for a job with Joe's call-boy service. Glen is taciturn and surly but Joe obviously likes him — early in the interview, Joe tells him, "I would have thrown most guys out by this time."
    As the interview progresses, Joe describes the tastes of some of his clients and scenarios that Glen might be expected to participate in. It's a logical way to introduce a variety of sex scenes, as well as to prolong what is obviously going to be Joe's seduction of Glen. This extended interview is the part that was filmed by Ross.
    One of the stories Joe tells is about the time one of his escorts was asked to wear a garter belt and black hose for client Ed Wiley. The action is hot as a firecracker, in part due to the escort's good looks and cock sucking skills and in part due to Wileys voracious efforts to get his tongue and his cock as far up the escort's ass as possible. The lingerie is surprisingly erotic.
    Another scenario involves a client whose primary interest lies in watching the escort jack off after a little bit of non-reciprocal oral sex. Then there's the client who likes to drive out into the country and have sex in the great outdoors. Glen's lack of interest in three-ways does not prevent Joe from telling him about a typical three-man encounter (with a return of the escort who wore the lingerie), but he keeps this one short.
    They also discuss complications that might arise with an escort's lover. Glen assures Joe he's single, but Joe tells him about David Anders (aka Brian Hawkes, Shawn MacIvan), a cock-hungry blond sexworker with a jealous boyfriend, played by J.W. King.
