No one seems to be in a rush to release a pent-up load in Falcon's Rush and Release. As a matter of fact, everyone in porn star Matthew Rush's directorial debut seems like they're in a rush to release their stiffening cocks from the confinements of their pants.
Following in the footsteps of porn stars like Chad Donovan, Michael Lucas, Michael Brandon and Doug Jeffries, Rush takes hold of the reins, and with a palette pleasing cast makes a pretty darn good film. The scenes are fantasies: ones that Rush has wanted to do or has concocted in his mind. There's a sheet-tangler between Andrew Justice and Max Schutler (beauty and buns); an all-star three-way where Ashton Star watches Justin Parker fuck Roman Heart; a sex club tryst between hairy Parker Williams and Tony Masala; and an incredible and crowd-pleasing muscle sex fantasy between Erik Rhodes and Marc Williams.
Although the film is pretty good for the first time director, Rush doesn't reinvent the wheel and he does not bring anything new to the blue screen. In Rush and Release, things are pretty standard. The sex is cut-and-dried, top and bottom; there's no versatility in the performances. While the sets and art direction are beautiful and eye-catching, the videography is average. The camera pans over the models, especially Rhodes when he's bent over the vibrant red couch getting fucked by Williams, catching every muscle contract and flex, but the close-ups aren't close enough, and the camera focuses sometimes too much on the models' faces.
For example, during the exciting three-way, while Heart rides Parker's cock, the audience knows Star is off on the side watching intently while stroking himself. Viewers hardly get to see Star, though. An extended shot over his shoulder to catch all of the action would've been better, or maybe a split-screen or overhead shot capturing all the action.
The same could be said for the videography in the opener with Andrew Justice and Max Schutler. These two lovelies lay in bed clad in their Calvin Klein undies (talk about product placement — the majority of the models are seen in them) and the viewer only sees about two different angles of them kissing and sucking. Once Justice fucks Schutler, the camera finally finds a new vantage point.
Of course, this is the first film Rush has directed, and Rome wasn't built in a day. One thing I hope he omits from his next film is the superfluous voiceover. Matthew, the viewer can see by the models' actions what's happening.
The eye-popping cast of muscleboys, fan favorites and hairy rugged men can't get enough of each other. The sex is delicious and memorable, and the attraction between the models obvious, but Rush and Release isn't as outstanding as it deserves to be.
The DVD has trailers, behind-the-scenes footage and director's commentary.
