Even with a lush tropical backdrop, a seasoned director, good videography, and beautiful men to satisfy the most finicky viewers, Swelter isn't hot enough to make you crank up your air conditioner. Although this film has that almost perfect combination, the sex is lukewarm, and watching Derek Rivero stroke himself through his blue Speedo in between scenes is almost uninteresting.
    This is very surprising coming from director Doug Jeffries, who has made some of the hottest and best films of the last couple of years. It's hard to believe a film like Swelter, with its conventional sex, came from a director who made the uninhibited Raw 1 and 2, the hilarious and sexy Little Big League 1 and 2, the naughty Lights and Darks and even a surprisingly non-campy and entertaining spoof called Bi-Back Mountain, to name a few. With the incredibly hot, wall-to-wall sex in those films, all viewers needed for a healthy sex life was a strong hand. Swelter is okay, but there isn't one stand-out performance or a scene that makes you want to go back for more.
    The models have something from everyone, like hyper masculine Joe Strong fucking hairy bottom Dane Hyde; redheaded Steve Ponce; and Latinos like twink Rivero and studly Damien Rios. The models look good with their costars, but that's about it. There's some attraction between them, as is the case with Strong and Hyde or Dallas Reeves and Ponce, but while the others are ready and willing, they lose steam before the oral portion is through.
    The sex is formulaic, which sounds silly since in just about every porno film there's going to be the same kind of sex. In Swelter, though, it's obvious who will be the bottom and who will top, and it times it seems like the sex is choreographed, not spontaneous. At times I found myself more interested in my junk mail than in Jason White rimming, fingering and fucking Jessie Balboa's smooth hole. There isn't any passion, aggression, tenderness, or emotion to make the scene electric, burning hot, naughty or downright piggy.
    The best scene belongs to Ponce and Reeves. Their performance and the looks on their faces make it feel like they want each other bad. Ponce swims up to Reeves, who is basking in the sun, pulls down his trunks and starts sucking his fat cock. The camera loves redheaded Ponce and Reeves loves him sucking his cock. One of the hottest parts of the scene is when Ponce bounces up and down on Reeves' cock, as the camera zooms in close to his cock swinging back and forth like a pendulum with his fiery red bush in the background. Their mutual attraction pays off in the end with two huge cumshots on their smooth bodies.
    Swelter is one of Jeffries' least exciting films. With lackluster performances, including the very pretty Rivero, who needs to chill on eyebrow sculpting, lip gloss and facial products, jerking off poolside with a dead look in his eyes, audiences may perspire more from buying this film rather than watching it.
